NYC Honey Week and Honey Fest
September 8-13 [All Ages] Celebrate the honeybee all week throughout the city with several interesting and educational events. NYC Honey Week’s cooking and beekeeping classes, festivals, and more promote honeybee education and preservation while giving participants a good taste of honey. Among several smaller events, the week culminates with Honey Fest on the Rockaway Boardwalk on Saturday, September 12. Brooklyn Book Festival Children's Day
September 19 [Ages 2-11] This year, the popular Brooklyn Book Festival has set aside a day for younger readers in celebration of its 10th anniversary. At the Festival’s Children’s Day, a combination of fun events will entertain bookworms along with author readings by big names like Herve Tullet (Press Here) and Drew Daywalt (The Day The Crayons Quit). Queens County Fair
September 19-20 [All Ages] There’s nothing better than an old-fashioned county fair just at the start of autumn. Livestock, produce, and crafts alike will compete for blue ribbons at the Queens County Farm Museum’s annual fair. Meanwhile, kids can participate in games and activities like corn-husking, hayrides, and pie-eating contests. There are also hands-on opportunities to learn about sustainability and gardening, as well as to make crafts. 92Y Annual Street Festival
September 20 [All Ages] A great community event, the 92Y’s 21st annual Street Fest will feature health services, activities, and entertainment for the whole family. Check out the children’s entertainment line-up at the 92Y KidCentral Stage, including singer-songwriter Paul Williams and performers from Tiffany’s Cabaret for a Cause; enjoy drop-in drawing and cartooning, or take a turn in the Tiny Tumblers Toddler obstacle course. Rolex Central Park Horse Show
September 23-27 [All Ages] The Rolex Central Park Horse Show returns to Trump Wollman Rink this year, even bigger and better than before! The five-day competition will encompass a variety of equestrian events and performances, from show jumping to Arabians and dressage, and this year’s expanded schedule includes events such as the U25 US Open Grand Prix. New York Transit Museum 22nd Annual Bus Festival & the Atlantic Antic
September 27 [All Ages] Experience a slice of New York history and a day of festival fun put together by the New York Transit Museum at their 22nd Annual Bus Festival. Boerum Place between State Street and Atlantic Avenue will be closed to traffic to make room for more than a dozen vintage buses that festival-goers can explore for free. After checking out the buses, you can head right over to the 41st annual Atlantic Antic street fair—the biggest street fair in Brooklyn—for bus memorabilia, food, art, shopping, and more. "Robin Hood" at the New Victory Theater
October 2-11 [Ages 7+] Although “Robin Hood” at the New Vic doesn’t start until October, you’ll want to get your tickets early for this fun performance. Performed by the Seattle’s Children’s Theatre, the show takes on the classic legend of Robin Hood with vigor and a small, witty cast. The action-packed performance along with its cheeky humor will entertain kids as the tricky outlaw faces the Sheriff of Nottingham, steals from the rich, gives to the poor, and tries to pursue a romance with Maid Marian.
