Tamera Mowry-Housley is just as animated, genuine, and talented as you might remember from the hit 90s TV show that made her (and her twin sister) famous: “Sister, Sister.” Last week, she joined Residence Inn for a special event to be honored as their 2015 Resident Mom of the Year. As she pulls the ingredients for her now famous kid-friendly “Toasted Banana Bites” together, she keeps one hand on her growing baby bump and chats about how she balances being a mom, sister, daughter, actress, wife, and entrepreneur.

“As a working mom of a 2-year-old, I understand the challenges of being able to juggle my obligations while raising a family and constantly traveling,” Mowry-Housley says. “And it just makes me feel really grateful that you guys think amazing things about me but most importantly about [one of] my best jobs in the world, you guys think amazing things about me as a mom.”

Mowry-Housley also took the audience through a few of her trademark “Mom Hacks,” designed to help moms balance their many roles. Her tips for traveling with a toddler include being sure to pack snacks that you know your kids already love, having their favorite movies and TV shows remain easily accessible throughout the day, and to try and time the flight for their regular nap times so they’ll sleep through the worst of it. Another tip highlights the multipurpose use of Ziploc bags. Mowry-Housley uses them for pre-planning outfits for each day, holding wet bathing suits after that one last swim, and even storing dirty laundry to keep the suitcase clean and organized.

“With another baby on the way, I know that it’s going to get a little more challenging and a little bit more crazy. But I love that Residence Inn celebrates moms and actually looks for opportunities to enhance the experience when you’re on the road,” Mowry-Housley says. “I’m a multi-tasker, I think women naturally are, and when you become a mother you have no other way than to multi-task. When I travel with my family, I’m always looking for ways to maximize my days and I have to say that staying at a Residence Inn really helps make our lives easier so we can find the time to really do what we want to do. And that is to explore and have fun adventures.”
