Describe your school’s core educational philosophy.

Our school’s core educational philosophy is embedded in the concept of “A School of One.” Where every child is seen as the only child in the school, learning is personalized based on a student’s strengths, needs and interests and every child knows that there is at least one person in the building who knows his or her story and cares deeply about him or her. We believe that students are most successful when relationships are built, connections are made, and there is rigor and relevance in teaching and learning.

Tell us about a few of the school’s achievements or distinguishing programs.

PS 25 is the No. 1 performing school in our district based on recently released NY State exams in ELA and Mathematics. We also out-performed NY State and NY City in these recent exams.

What’s new?

We proudly started our brand new contemporary Dance Studio this fall. Our school now houses the Eubie Blake Art Museum in honor and memory of the late renowned jazz player and ragtime musician, Eubie Blake. The museum is adorned with displays of students’ art work as well as memorabilia of Sir Eubie Blake. Additionally, PS 25 was recently awarded the Laura Bush Library Grant in order to embellish the book collection in our state-of-the-art library.

What do you love about your school?

There are several things that I love about my school which include but are not limited to: The high quality of leadership of the school and our love for our students and staff; the staff is committed and dedicated to our young scholars and most go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that students become smarter, are prepared for college and life outside of school and achieve success; our hallways and classrooms are print rich, colorful, welcome student-voice, and celebrate students’ success in the display of their work products; my school maintains relationships and partnerships with several community organizations to help enrich the lives of our students; and my school offers a variety of curriculum and enrichment activities for our students and parents such as financial literacy, an instrumental band program, technology, Cool Men Read Day, Diva Darlings Read Day, and more.

It is therefore our responsibility as a faculty of co-learners, to create an environment that is aesthetically pleasing, provocative in its material offerings, and supportive of the development of our students' unique identities.

We do this through a multi-sensory approach, giving value to the 100 languages of children, which includes more creative forms of expression, such as music, movement, and art. Through these modes of self-expression, we are able to differentiate our approach to the learning styles and developmental needs of each child, and communicate the value and responsibility of each voice within our community, intentionally setting the groundwork for a lifetime love of learning.

The École

At The École, we believe that the goal of education is to develop well-informed, well-rounded, responsible, and compassionate students who can create and connect to a world filled with possibilities. This belief is at the heart of our uniquely designed bilingual program, in which students learn not just to speak, read, and write in two languages but also to think, feel, and act in ways informed by two cultures. To always see, explore, and understand the world around them from two perspectives is the gift of the deeply bi-literate, bi-cultural student.

Artfully blending the curriculum requirements and pedagogical approaches of the French and American systems, our native-speaking faculty create rich academic environments for a diverse, international student body. From Maternelle through Middle School, students at The École are guided through the core language arts, social studies, math, and sciences content, as well as character and cultural enrichment in both French and English for all subjects. In our intimate classroom settings or out and about in New York City’s many artistic and historical institutions, using traditional and technology-based techniques, our teachers aspire to provide individual and group bilingual learning opportunities that engage, challenge, and inspire.
