As we head into the heart of summer, this is a good time
to consider a check list of goals—personal, parental, large, small—that you would
like to accomplish while the days and nights are longer, slower and warmer. Here’s a question to start with: What special activity do you absolutely hope to
share with your child this summer? Even an obvious one like getting to the
beach should be put on the list if you need to plan for it. —
Here’s another good question: What book would you like
to read?
One more: Is it time to take on a home-improvement
project?
In no order of priority or preference, here are a few
more questions on our mind. Hopefully, they’ll spur you to seek some answers of
your own:
*If the family took a one-day road-trip, where would
you go? What about for the whole weekend?
*If you wanted to have picnic, where would you have
it?
*If you could teach your child something this summer,
what would it be?
*Given how nice the weather is in the early evenings,
are there some fun changes to make to the family’s post-mealtime ritual?
*If you could prepare a meal you’ve never taken on
before, what would it be?
*What would be a fun age-appropriate game to add to
family time?
*Is this the season for you to begin eating better
and exercising more?
*How can you bring more joy and relaxation to your
life as a parent? As a partner?
*Then there are classic summer staples like soft ice
cream, miniature golf, and amusement parks. What are your must-do summer
classics and how will you get them done?
Finally, here’s a story we recently did with
specific ideas for fun family bonding time over the summer. More inspiration.
