One of the biggest challenges of raising a child with severe food allergies is making their teachers, peers, and parents of other children understand how life threatening their allergies truly are. Many people have never encountered food allergies and tend to have a hard time grasping the severity of them. With the food allergy epidemic so prominent in children these days, there is a definite need to spread awareness. —
Parents of children with food allergies are often fearful, with good reason, when leaving their children in the care of others. This is where Jonesy, the Toronto-based eco-friendly stationary designer and photographer Debra Thier, mother of two children with severe food allergies, step in to help. The two have teamed up to create an all-new Allergy Card specifically for children to bring with them to all their activities. These Allergy Cards create a concise and organized place to note all of your child’s allergies.
Despite being small, the card contains a chock full of information including the child’s name, date of birth, their specific allergies, parent contact information and even directions on how to administer the EpiPen Auto-Injector. This card is great to give to teachers, baby-sitters, and any other authority figures your child may be left with to inform and give directions in case of emergency. In addition, the card is a great device to give to waitresses and chefs when eating out.
Nina Jones, creative director of Jonesy, sums their goal up best when she says “Hopefully we can make life simpler for families, aid in allergic reaction prevention, and at the same time stimulate more allergy awareness in general.” All Allergy Cards are printed on 100% post consumer recycled paper with soy based inks.
