Breastfeeding Resource: Birth Day Presence’s The Breast Start

shutterstockIt’s not uncommon for a new mother to feel a sense of panic when she has trouble with or questions about breastfeeding. Once a mother has given birth, hospitals can sometimes be less than helpful when she needs support in the lactation department–which can leave new mothers unsure where to turn or who to contact to get their breastfeeding questions answered. That’s where The Breast Start, a new service from Birth Day Presence comes in.

Birth Day Presence, an award-winning and trusted provider of childbirth education and doula services in NYC, launched The Breast Start to act as a way to provide new moms with instant access to lactation help and services.

The way that The Breast Start works is simple: A new mother can shoot a quick text to (917) 407-1347 within the first 1-2 days after giving birth and a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) will come to your home, hospital, or birth center to start you off on a path to healthy and comfortable breastfeeding. While breastfeeding is often easy and natural, it is important to learn how to avoid common pitfalls to ensure both you and your baby are receiving all your needs.

A session with your CLC, held 1-2 days after birth, will share latching techniques, helping reduce common pains, cracked nipples, and bleeding. By meeting with an expert early on, new mothers will learn what to expect in early breastfeeding, how to gauge if your baby is receiving enough milk, and most importantly, gain confidence as a new mother!
