Broadway Kids Care is collecting coats for the Warm Coats & Warm Hearts Drive, part of a Good Morning America initiative to keep fellow New Yorker families warm this winter.
The group has collected 150 coats, half their goal, since they began collecting in late October. They are accepting donations at various locations through December 1. Also joining the effort are Broadway shows including Kinky Boots.
“I’m really excited to be able to help with the coat drive this year,” said Matthew Ko, a student at Xavier High School in New York City. Matthew is directing this year’s coat drive this year with assistance from fellow Regis students.
Broadway Kids Care was founded in 2007 by Kelly Gonda as a way to bring together children from current and past Broadway shows while allowing them to perform community service. Tammie Cumming is running Broadway Kids Care. Members hail from Broadway, film & TV.
The group began collecting coats in 2010.“The Winter Holidays can be a fun time of year for most people, but then there are those who don’t get to fully enjoy it for a few reasons. The least we can do is collect coats to help people stay warm. I’m so grateful that there is an organization like Broadway Kids Care that brings young performers together to do what they love while helping others and making the world a better place,” says Laurissa Romain, BKC spokesperson for the coat drive.
