Families can now see over 20 different life-like dinosaurs at the Bronx Zoo and embark on a journey back in time—about 300 million years, to be more specific. On the Dinosaur Safari, you’ll encounter massive creatures up to 40-feet-long that move, roar, spit, and maybe even spray some water on you! Kid-favorites like the Tyrannosaurus rex and the Triceratops are only two of the dinos you’ll pass by as you hop on a two-acre drive. Your safari jeep will take you through the realistic habitats from the Permian period all the way through to the Cretaceous period. (Not sure what that means? You will by the end of the tour.)
But there’s much more to the safari than just getting to know the unique attributes of each dinosaur from your tour guide and Field Guide booklet. Kids can also learn all about plants that existed over 300 million years ago and are still flourishing today, like the monkey puzzle and gingko trees, not to mention 21st century animals that exhibit the same behavior as those that are extinct. A big plus for the budding archaeologist: After the ride, the whole family can dive into digging for fossils.
