When a child is stricken with a fever, virus, or infection, it is sometimes difficult for his or her regular pediatrician to determine the cause or the right treatment. Instead of being treated at a hospital, parents now have the option of getting a referral from their child’s doctor to visit Brooklyn Pediatrics Infectious Disease Associates, a private outpatient pediatric infectious diseases practice in Bay Ridge that opened in July.
“We started to notice after working in the Brooklyn community that patients were being sent to the hospital when they didn’t have to be,” says Dr. Lucy Pontrelli.
Along with her associate Dr. Jason Perlman, Dr. Pontrelli works to support and help doctors treat patients and provide accurate and up-to-date information on viruses and infections. The doctors at Brooklyn Pediatric Infectious Disease Associates treat Lyme disease, the flu, and Staph, lung, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and ear, nose, and throat infections, and more. The office is also able to provide advice and vaccinations for children and adults who are traveling outside of the country.
