Chi Moshi, Inc., a massage studio located in the heart of Fort Greene, opened in January. This studio offers a wide range of treatments for newborns to adults in a safe, intimate, and stress-free environment.
Owner and licensed massage therapist Myra Howard promotes the idea that massages should be a part of everyone’s health routine and not just a luxury. Howard offers specialized services and talks with clients to create a strategy for getting the best results from massage.
Howard is certified to practice on prenatal and postpartum clients, as well as infants. She incorporates different techniques in her treatment to cater to your child’s specific needs helping circulation and growth and stimulating muscle, movement, and motor skills. Massage also helps babies with ailments including congestion and constipation. Parents, too, can benefit from massaging their children as it promotes bonding and can help them identify infant cues.
Howard also helps children with asthma through massage—a study in the Journal of Pediatrics shows that massage on children with asthma reduces levels of cortisol and anxiety while improving respiratory control, blood oxygenation, and their attitude toward asthma.
In September, Chi Moshi will offer two classes. The “Welcome to Parenthood Café” will provide a free forum for parents to discuss concerns while meeting other local parents. The infant care workshop will cover a range of topics including diapering, bathing, infant massage, breast-feeding support, and choosing a pediatrician.
Chi Moshi is open seven days a week by appointment.
