Giant Water Slide Takes Over Manhattan Streets on Saturdays in August

Where will the streets shut down for a three-story water slide, dishwasher-shaped water park, and more for free? In Manhattan, of course—in the middle of Park Avenue!

Citi Summer Streets, now in its 10th year, is where seven miles of Park Avenue and Lafayette and Centre streets are shut down to provide free family activities in a car-free environment, according to a press release from the New York City Department of Transportation.

New for this year is the LG QuadWash Water Park at the Central Park Rest Stop

With six rest stops from Central Park to the Brooklyn Bridge, visitors can expect to see an expanded list of activities and programs, including the new LG QuadWash Water Park at the Central Park Rest Stop on 71st Street; three interactive dance performances from Elisa Monte Dance at 11am at the Foley Square rest stop; and an adventure zone at the Uptown Rest Stop with an obstacle course and bouldering wall.

The theme for this year’s Citi Summer Streets is storytelling through the five senses and there are specific experiences tailored to these sensations throughout the course. For example, there will be a 360-degree Mount Everest VR experience at the Astor Place Rest Stop and a “Smellwalks” around Astor Place at 9am and 11am.

Returning favorites include Vita Coco’s 270-foot Beachside Slide, a 165-foot-long zip-line at the Uptown Rest Stop, Taste of Summer Sampling Zone, a Paws and Play Dog Park, and bike rentals.
