Derek Jeter hitting a game-winning single to right field to the last game of his career was one thing, but surely the most adorable moment of the night belonged to Jeter’s nephew Jalen, who saluted his uncle with a tip of his own Yankee baseball cap.
You can enjoy the video of Jalen’s moment right here, but before you do we hope you’ll take a minute to a read the brief profile of Jeter’s sister and Jalen’s mom, Sharlee Jeter, which ran in New York Family in May, as part of our annual “Moms We Love” package (click HERE).
Sharlee is the President of Derek’s Turn 2 Foundation, whose mission is to “motivate young people to turn away from drugs and alcohol.” Jeter may be retiring, but Turn 2 will live on. As Sharlee described it to us, Turn 2 is, at its heart, a family initiative. She works closely with her brother and the rest of her family to help the Foundation grow.
“It is something Derek really wanted to do and something we all wanted to be a part of,” she says. “It added the incentive that we were doing it for each other, with each other.”
