When my son was born, I received so many presents from family and friends that it was hard to keep track of who sent each gift. But one in particular still stands out in my mind–a big, beautiful diaper cake from my parents’ next-door neighbor, a new mom herself, decorated with little charms, flowers made from washcloths, and onesies.
It seemed to have enough diapers to last our baby’s first month. Of course, once my husband and I actually started using them, that anticipated month became a mere week and a half. It only took a couple of trips to the store to teach us that it made more sense to buy diapers in bulk to cut costs. Since then, I’ve shopped for diaper bargains both online and around the city. Here are a few of the best deals I’ve found.
Diapers.com. This site delivers reasonably priced diapers–and other baby essentials–to your doorstep and is very service-oriented. For an extra incentive to those who haven’t purchased from them before, new members get 20 percent off diapers for three months. They also offer free 1 to 2 day shipping on orders of $50 or more. All of my orders have arrived in a single day.
Amazon.com. Did you know they offer some of the best prices on diapers, plus free shipping? And if you have a sense of how frequently you need new ones, you can sign up for their “Subscribe and Save” feature for 15 percent off. You can also save an additional 15 percent by joining the Amazon Mom program (dads and grandparents can join too). The program is free, and includes Amazon Prime 2-day shipping free for 3 months–which can be extended up to a year depending on your purchases.
Costco. You know the deal: buy a membership and get savings on bulk packages. Not a
lot of diaper choices, but good deals for an immediate purchase, especially if you buy the store brand, Kirkland–in fact, many moms swear by them and say they are super-absorbent.
Target. Consider visiting their new store on East 117th Street, which has a focus on city living and is stocked with items of particular interest to apartment dwellers. And of course, diapers. You can find good deals here, especially for when you realize you need more diapers and don’t have time to order them online. They also offer free shipping for online orders of $50 or more.
Babies “R” Us and Buy Buy Baby. You may only think of these mega-stores when it comes to baby gear, but they also carry a range of reasonably priced diapers. With various locations around the city, they are great for last-minute diaper runs.
