Park Slope Kids Dental, owned by Dr. Tanesha Francis—or Dr. T as the kids know her, is a new, state-of-the-art, kids-only dental office located in Park Slope. The office features an open play and appointment area, which lessons the negative experiences at the dentist. Dr. T schedules at least two appointments per year for each child to allow for a familiarity to grow.
Dr. Tanesha Francis—or Dr. T as children know her—will open Park Slope Kids Dental Care, a brand new, state-of-the-art, kid’s-only dentist office, this month. The office features a waiting area for parents and a separate room for children, which they access through their own kid-sized door. Once inside, children find a brightly colored room with a big screen TV, iPads, and books.
Kids can forget about the daunting trip to the dentist because Dr. T eliminates the feeling of old pediatric dentistry with a fun, open area where children can be together and play in an open bay space where teeth cleaning and X-rays are performed.
Dr. T considers her practice personal pediatric dentistry because kids have at least two to four appointments per year. This high frequency allows for a familiarity to grow between dentist and child, which lessens any fear a child may have of the dentist.
Dr. T credits her experiences, including her pediatric dentsitry residency at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, for learning how to deal with the emotional aspect of a dentist appointment, which, she has learned, is half the battle.
