I Remember Rosie

Rosie and the New York Family glam squad.

I’ll never forget first meeting Rosie Pope back in 2008. She had recently opened her original store in Soho; was designing all these stylish maternity clothes; and had a lot of interesting things to say about maternity wear and the more general needs of pregnant women. And I kept thinking, who are you? Since I had never heard of her or her work, I wanted to know about her career path. This new kid on the block in maternity design, it turned out, became more impressive with every bit of her backstory. Did you know that Rosie, who is originally from England, was a dedicated ballerina who eventually went on to study neuroscience at Columbia? Oh, and did I mention that she also used to moonlight as a private detective’s assistant?

Since then, of course, Rosie has gone on to become a notable and popular figure at the intersection of maternity design and pregnancy. The star of Bravo’s “Pregnant In Heels” is not only putting out wonderful new maternity clothes every season, she’s implementing cutting-edge practices in retail and customer involvement—and she’s a go-to source for new and expecting moms across the country seeking information, advice, and support.

But you know what? Spending time with her now is still very much like it was when we first met. She’s pleasant, wise, knowledgeable, and candid, and I can’t help but think that, in addition to her talent and her hard work, her character is at the heart of her success. All of which is a very roundabout way of saying how very proud and pleased I am that Rosie has taken on a very special role at our annual New York Baby Show, coming up on May 18 and 19, as a kind of Parent Helper-In-Chief!

The rest of this issue is chockfull of great stories like how you can use a popular art therapy technique to help improve your child’s behavior, a guide to inspired summer programs and camps for kids, and much more.

Happy April everyone,
