Tony award-winning Broadway legend Brian Stokes Mitchell is about to put another credit on the Playbill—helping public education. Mitchell will perform a concert to benefit the Hunter College Elementary School on Friday, April 4.
Supporting public schools is a cause near and dear to his heart, made especially meaningful because his own child attends the school. He will perform music from his recent album “Simply Broadway,” named one of the best albums of 2013 by USA Today, at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College.
A Broadway favorite, Mitchell has performed dozens of memorable roles on the great white way. He won a Tony award for his performance in the 1999 revival of Cole Porter’s “Kiss Me, Kate,” and was nominated for his performances in productions of “Ragtime,” “King Hedley II,” and “Man of La Mancha.” The multi-talented actor and singer, with his distinctive baritone voice, also has numerous television and film credits.
But it’s not an “impossible dream” to see Mitchell sing at the benefit–tickets are still available (every seat is good and tickets start at $60).
