Prospect Park Alliance will be celebrating the start of spring with Opening Weekend in Prospect Park on April 7 and 8, according to a press release. Families can enjoy a full weekend of events and activities such as family yoga classes, the Alliance’s Opening Weekend Fair, running, bird watching and walking tours. Children get free zoo admission all weekend.
From 10 am-2pm on Saturday, April 7, there will be a free 1860s-inspired baseball game and weekend parade that will take place in Long Meadow, Ball Field 1. Over 1,000 youth league players will parade down Seventh Avenue in Park Slope, led by the local marching band and civic leaders. The parade will end at the Long Meadow Ball Field where ceremonial first pitches will be thrown.
At the Grand Army Plaza from 11am to 1pm, visitors can grill meats and veggies sourced from Greenmarket farmers for free. From 12-3pm, there will be a Prospect Park Scavenger Hunt where individuals of all ages can explore the 151-year-oldpark, locating historical landmarks and racking up points.
All weekend long there will be various other events including a nature exploration, a chance to ice-skate one last time, carousel rides, and more. Other upcoming events at the park this April include the Earth Day Celebration, Arbor Day, Prospect Park Tennis Center, Spring Break in Prospect Park, and the Community Arbor Day Tree Planting.
