Actress (and mom) Sarah Michelle Gellar recently joined Swiffer as a program ambassador for its “Yes to the Mess” event during an evening of messy kids’ fun on February 3, 2016.
One of children’s most magical qualities is their ability to let go of all inhibitions and let their creativity roam free. Many successful professionals attest that these creative moments can lead to a child’s future occupational success. However, every parent knows that this kind of creative exploration usually means a mess to clean up.
According to a Swiffer Cleaning Index survey, while the majority of parents (72 percent) feel that letting kids make a mess helps encourage their creativity, nearly all (95 percent) have said “no” to their kids’ requests because of the mess it makes. That’s why Swiffer hosted this event to encourage parents to start saying “yes” to the mess and let their children’s imagination and creativity flower because their products make clean up fast and easy afterwards.
Actress, entrepreneur, and mom-of-two Gellar hosted the Swiffer event at Maman bakery on February 3 to support the “Yes to the Mess” campaign. During the evening of messy fun, kids got to participate in a number of untidy, but educational activities that parents would normally say “no” to. Local parents brought their little ones to do science projects, baking, and other creatively enriching arts and crafts that promote independent thinking. Children got to let their imagination run wild while adults were treated to delicious hot beverages and yummy snacks courtesy of Maman .

Swiffer established itself as a cleaning pioneer system and a pop culture icon starring in many Hollywood films in its own right since 1999 so having an actress ambassador who is also a mom to young children feels like a natural choice. “I believe that while kids are born with a natural instinct towards creativity–it is still a skill that parents need to continually foster. My two kids work on fine and gross motor skills, math, science, vocabulary and more through baking, and their resulting smiles light up my day,” Gellar says. “That’s why I don’t mind having to clean up the cake batter and crumbs on my floors afterwards. And with Swiffer, I can enjoy saying ‘yes’ more often because I am able to get a thorough clean in minutes while indulging my kids’ sense of discovery and exploration. Not to mention I truly believe creativity is the road to invention.”
The actress was joined by several other successful professionals from a variety of different industries who shared their and their kids’ positive experience with letting messy play happen: Chef and founder of the Creative Kitchen and Kids Food Festival, Cricket Azima, Tough Mudder’s senior VP of marketing, Jesse Bull, and Robofun’s founder and CEO, Laura Allen.
As the future little chefs, bakers, designers, and inventors continued their messy fun at the creative stations, parents could get acquainted with the newest Swiffer products that make cleaning up just a matter of minutes. It was an evening of “yes” to learning, educational opportunities, imagination, and good old fashioned messy fun for all.
