On Saturday, October 17, Trump SoHo New York hosted the latest installment of the Young Entrepreneurs SoHo (Y.E.S.) program, a special extension of the brand-wide Trump Kids program. This unique program started about two years ago and the past events included cooking classes, a mini spa class with nail art and face painting, an event with New York City Fire Museum, and even a business class with the organization called Young Biz USA, explains Nicole Murano, Trump SoHo’s director of marketing and communications.
For this month’s Y.E.S. event, Trump SoHo partnered with the Children’s Museum of the Arts (CMA) to organize a morning of art-making and stop-motion animation tutorials for children ages 5-12 and their families. CMA is a nonprofit arts facility that brings hands-on art programming to children throughout New York City with their staff of practicing teaching artists to extend the benefits of the arts to all children.
Perched up high on the 46th floor of Trump SoHo, in an event space called SoHi, young attendants were greeted with children’s music and two gift bags–one from the Trump SoHo and one from Stella McCartney Kids–containing stickers, hats, and other favors. Surrounded by New York City’s stunning fall views, the young entrepreneurs participated in in a variety of art activities taught by the members of Children’s Museum of the Arts. The theme of this event was seasons, so young guests got to create themed props and costumes at the arts and crafts table, such as autumn foliage crowns or a “Frozen”-style magic wand.
The main event was the stop-motion animation tutorial. The stop-animation creations featured falling leaves over city streets and cats and dogs falling from the sky over the Brooklyn Bridge to playfully reflect the phrase “raining cats and dogs.”
Children also got to use iStopMotion to create a collaborative short film that was available to watch on Vimeo after the event, with an added musical score. With the assistance from members of CMA, children received a tutorial on how to create stop-motion short films and got to star in their own film, thus learning both sides, behind and in front of the camera. The process called pixilation allowed kids to be stars of their own stop-motion animation.
Y.E.S. is open to children and teens aged 3 to 17 who are hotel guests, condo owners, or residents of the neighborhood. There is a $20 fee per child for hotel guests and neighborhood residents who are Trump SoHo Y.E.S. members. Membership is free and open to children of all ages. The suite of benefits for the kids who mean business includes personalized business cards, monogrammed robes, activities guides, milk and cookies in room, and many other perks.
