The fall season is typically when parents make their biggest investment in fashion for their children, outfitting their kids for back-to-school and equipping them with outerwear for the colder months ahead. Fall also tends to make the biggest impact in defining the latest fashion trends— ideas which will trickle down into styles for the spring season.
This is when everyone will be looking for a feeling of comfort and warmth—and the color schemes for the season reflect that. Expect to see shades of raisin, pomegranate, aubergine and cranberry alongside deep purples, reds and oranges, mirroring the look of the changing autumn leaves. Gunmetal is the new metallic color of the season, and gray will be the dominant staple color alongside classic black.
Let’s reminisce back to the look and feel of American style: Denim is set to be extremely popular this season. It’s showing up everywhere in dark shades of blue, gray and black. Skinny styles are popular for both boys and girls—shown in colored denims as well as dark washes.
Meanwhile, it’s back to
prep school with looks of tartans and plaids, which lead the charge in a
multitude of colors and styles appearing on everything from skirts to
blazers. Checks
come in sizes from mini to grand (the latter is also known as Buffalo
checks). Stripes are also prominent in both bold and simple lines. All
of these will pop in fun colors of bright pinks, blues and purples.
Corduroy, a fall staple, is available in both fine and thick wale
textures in shades from winter white to charcoal gray.
Boys love to just
throw their clothes on, which is why the layering look still remains
popular. T-Shirts can be found under checked or striped shirts worn over
jeans. Graphic and graffiti prints remain here to stay.
Girls will feel
feminine yet empowered by the assortment of dress and skirt styles
available. There is a range of prints, from classic looks to bolder more
graphic patterns that even come with an attached belt in either chain
or leather.
Girls just want to have fun, and they will this
season with ruffles being prominent on everything from tops to skirts as
well as dresses. Fringe makes a comeback on shirts, tees and prints,
such as zebra and camouflage, and now will be offered in bright colors
that will certainly attract attention.
As the weather gets
cooler, kids will have fun pulling out their coats and vests to combat
the change in temperature. Leather jackets for both boys and girls are
not just black anymore: distressed leather and metallic are hot choices.
Fur (fake, of course) exhibits patterns like leopard and cheetah in
cropped looks to show off those skinny jeans. Vests can be found in fur
or in a down puffy look to combat those chilly winds. Boys revert back
to more classic and rugged looks with pea coats and hunting jackets in
brown and navy tones.
When it comes to shoes, patent is not just
for dressing up anymore! Now it’s offered in many color selections for
everyday use. The sparkle of sequins will adorn ballet flats, which can
be worn with jeans and skirts. Metallic colors of silver, gold and
gunmetal work with every look, from casual to dressy. Sneakers are
popular for both boys and girls, with high tops offered in color
blocks—a range of coordinating colors—sequins, and with character
adornments. Boots are offered in various styles, and in fabrics of suede
and leather. Boys will be grateful for rugged looks, with shoes that
can be worn with both casual and dressy looks in colors of navy, brown
and beige.
