Women in American History at the New-York Historical Society

Children and parents will have a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with artifacts from the Gilder Lehraman Collection. Beth Huffer, Curator of Books and Manuscripts, will lead conversations related to women’s important roles in the history, highlighting artifacts from the American Revolution through World War II and treasures relating to Lucy Knox, Mary Walker, and Susan B. “Accomplished Women” Exhibit at the Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum

Visit the Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum to see the exhibit “Accomplished Women: Schoolgirl Art from Female Academies in the Early Nineteenth Century,” which highlights the needlework and watercolor creations of female students from private academies during the 1790s, when these schools were beginning to open in major cities around the country. A selection of 12 beautiful and rare works from a major private collection are on view, including a mourning embroidery by Abigail Walker—part of Bartow-Pell’s permanent collection.
