Forest Park Carousel in Queens, the only carousel with the Landmark of New York designation, is debuting its newest attraction: the Woodhaven Express, a train ride for toddlers and small children.
In 2013, the Forest Park Carousel became a designated Landmark of New York City. As the only carousel with that designation, it has expanded its features for children and families. The Forest Park Carousel is debuting its latest addition to the community this weekend: The Woodhaven Express, a choo-choo train perfect for toddlers, smaller kids, and the parents accompanying them.
“I’m excited to offer our guests this new attraction,” says Daeshawn Grimes, site manager of the Forest Park Carousel. “The Forest Park Carousel has become the local go-to spot for family fun and birthday parties. Between the Forest Park Carousel, the Woodhaven Express, and our free entertainment offerings, a family can make a nice afternoon at our venue.”
This summer, the Forest Park Carousel provided entertainment for children and families alike. The free summer entertainment series includes visits from Zabo’s Circus Show (Aug. 8 at 2pm and 4pm), Cido the Clown (Aug. 15 at 2pm and 4pm), Making Magic with Ethan (Aug. 22 at 2pm and 4pm), and The Great Miguelino (Aug. 29 at 2pm and 4pm).
“This past off-season, we performed some much needed rehabilitation work on the century-old Forest Park Carousel. This assures that the carousel should be able to spin for years to come,” says David P. Galst, managing director of NY Carousel. “Now, we’ve added the Woodhaven Express which gives guests another reason to visit us. Hopefully, the community responds positively and we’re able to add more attractions in the years to come.”
Forest Park Carousel, located at Woodhaven Boulevard and Forest Park Drive, is open Monday-Friday, 11am-6pm, and Saturday-Sunday, 11am-8pm. The Woodhaven Express single ride is $3 per ticket. Kids must be 36 inches tall to ride alone, and children shorter than 36 inches must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
