As the holiday season draws to a close, don’t miss your chance to take home part of the winner of the 2014 Guinness World Record for largest gingerbread village. Created by chef and gingerbread artist Jon Lovitch, the village, which is currently housed in the New York Hall of Science, has grown into a true metropolis over the past 20 years. When Lovitch’s project began in 1994, his village consisted of a mere 12 frosted roofs. Two decades later, this year’s 300 square foot gingerbread creation contains 161 edible homes, 4 gingerbread subway cars, 65 candy trees, and more.
Though the exhibit is set to close on January 12th, the fun doesn’t have to end for that day’s visitors to the New York Hall of Science. Lovitch will be giving away items from GingerBread Lane to families who come out on Sunday to see the sugary creation for the last time. While supplies last, you and your kids could be the lucky owner of part of Eggnog Bay, Gum Drop Row, or Peppermint Central Park. Though the giveaway doesn’t start until noon, the line will begin forming at 10 am, so make sure to get there early to make sure you’ll get to leave with a gingerbread building!
