In honor of the National Park Service centennial this year, the film is a celebration of the majestic beauty of American national parks. Get up close and personal with bears as they catch salmon, and spot alligators lurking in the Everglades! Follow elite climber Conrad Anker, photographer Max Lowe, and artist Rachel Pohl as they scale cliffs, bike through canyons, and ski through icy caves.

“The film pays tribute to what many call ‘America’s Best Idea Ever,’” Director Greg MacGillivray explained at the press preview screening. This epic trek through over 30 national parks honors the conservationist legacy of Theodore Roosevelt.

After Roosevelt became president in 1901, he created The United States Forest Service, four game preserves, 51 bird refuges, 18 national monuments, and five national parks. He even helped to create and expand 150 national forests. During his presidency, he protected approximately 230 million acres of land. Seven years after Roosevelt left office, Woodrow Wilson created the National Park Service.

On August 25, 2016, the National Park Service turns 100! In honor of the centennial, the National Park Service initiated the #FindYourPark initiative, encouraging Americans to get outdoors, share their stories, and support their parks.

As a part of the centennial festivities, national park entrance will be free for fourth graders and their families through August 30.This is gift is intended to encourage ten-year-olds to put down their video games and step outside.

The National Park Service aims to use centennial celebrations to generate awareness and make these sites accessible.

“Awareness is so critical. Our main goal was to get the audience to fall in love with the parks, so they will want to protect them forever,” MacGillivray said.

“National Parks Adventure” is a rollicking good time and will inspire you and your little ones to explore the great outdoors and protect our forests!

As president Roosevelt said: “The wildlife and its habitat cannot speak, so we must and we will.”

“National Parks Adventure” opens February 12th, 2016 and will run through September 1, 2016 at the Samuel J. and Ethel LeFrak Theater at the American Museum of Natural History. For more information, check out amnh.org!
