Choices in Childbirth is a locally-based non-profit organization aimed at providing parents-to-be with a wealth of information and educational resources as they make choices about the birth experience they want. Their goal is to educate, advocate, and shape policy to help families make informed decisions about where, how, and with whom to birth, and to increase access to childbirth services that support healthy birth outcomes. They also offer their All About Birth workshops throughout the year, which bring together parents and providers for expectant parents to hear a wide range of information as they prepare for birth (they also publish a great list of health care providers that can be sorted by insurance preference, service type, and location). In short–they are a lovely local organization that provides an essential service.
And right now, Choices in Childbirth is reaching out to the New York City community for help in reaching their latest funding goals. After more than a decade of providing support to women and families, doulas, and midwives, and advocating for sweeping improvements in maternity care and education, they suddenly find themselves facing an unexpected funding shortfall that could hurt their ability to achieve the realistic goals they have set for the coming months.

Simply put: Choices in Childbirth needs to raise $10,000 by March 31 to ensure that their 2016 plans are not compromised.
Choices in Childbirth wants to keep the costs of their workshops accessible and affordable for all families. They want to continue working toward the release of their midwifery care report in October, and continue their advocacy for midwifery access throughout the state. They also want to build a hospital-based doula program for women on Medicaid.
