Recall Alert! Self-Balancing Scooters/Hoverboards Pose Fire Hazard

Does your child have a self-balancing scooter/hoverboard? If so, it’s time to get rid of it or attempt to return it to the place of purchase or to the manufacturer.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled the product because the lithium-ion battery pack which is used in the device can overheat. Some of the scooters/hoverboards have begun to smoke and even catch fire or worse, explode!

As fun as the scooter/hoverboard may be, this is not a risk worth taking. Please take the necessary precautions and rid your home from this toy.

All in all, approximately 501,000 units have been recalled in total. For a full list of the brands and models recalled, visit the CPSC.gov site for details.

In brief, the following scooter/hoverboard brands/models have been recalled thus far:

  • Hover-Way/Model # HWSBB601-R
  • Powerboard
  • Hype Roam
  • iMoto
  • Airwalk Self Balancing Electric Scooter
  • Hovertrax
  • Swagway X1
  • Wheeli, 2Wheelz, Back to the Future, Mobile Tech, Hover Shark, NWS, X Glider and X Ride

Unfortunately, close to 100 cases of injury or issues with the scooters/hoverboards have already been reported. Fires and burns have happened to unsuspecting users. If you or your child owns one of the hoverboards listed above, it is best to remove this device from your home immediately. Hopefully, the manufactures will rectify the issues or produce newer and safer models soon.
