From cardio kickboxing to cooking, the YMCA has a great variety of family-fun activities to keep you warm this winter. You can get away from the city for a special weekend retreat at the annual Winter Family Camp, sign up for one of the organization’s many family classes, or visit your local Y for Family Night or Family Recreation Time. These great offerings are sure to get you and your family singing, “It’s fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A!”
This Presidents’ Day Weekend, take a mini-vacation to rural New York at Winter Family Camp on February 15-18. Family activities include arts & crafts, recreational games, and hands-on programs suitable for children of all ages. If you’re lucky and the weather is snowy, enjoy fun outdoor activities like tubing, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Three nights of cozy cabin lodging and nine buffet-style meals are included with tickets.
YMCA Family Classes present the perfect opportunity for families to explore something new together. Roam the paths in Central Park and learn about local wildlife in “Family Outdoor Fun,” or harness your creativity in art classes like “Art & Wonder” and “Family Cooking.” If you want to get your blood flowing with physical activities try cardio kickboxing, yoga, pilates, or zumba. And if you need a little break, come to the Y’s Parents Night Out to catch up on some well-deserved R&R.
For a cheaper alternative, Family Nights are fun and free nighttime events that range from art to fitness to games, where you and your child can learn and play together. Additionally, member families can take advantage of the open gym and pool hours during Family Recreation Time, offered regularly at each YMCA. Check branch schedules for dates and times.
