Temperatures and trends are commanding layers these days, so we’re giving you a roundup of jackets, each with a personality as crisp and cool as the mid-fall air. Invest in one of these to keep little ones toasty with vintage-inspired details and eye-popping patterns.

The Jock

This jacket might call up memories of “The Breakfast Club” for most parents, but the classic collegiate style is coming back outside of its official capacity. Joe Fresh’s Varsity Jacket gives any little guy the sporty look he loves. Whether he’s into the big leagues or he just looks great in yellow, this bold active wear does all the heavy lifting in little boys’ ensembles.

The Quirk

The Dottie Raincoat by Stella McCartney serves as the perfect shield to ward off dreary bad-weather vibes. This sunny and energetic outerwear embraces inclement weather–and is so cheerful that it may even inspire an impromptu performance of “Singing in the Rain.” Spotted all over and piped with color, this jacket conquers the doldrums of any foul weather day.

The Outdoorsman

Rugged and functional, this Flannel Hooded Jacket by Woolrich is made for the great outdoors. Wearing this combo flannel, boys can stay warm while adventuring and exploring. A little reminiscent of the ’90s, the checkered flannel is detailed with corduroy elbow patches and a detachable hood, so you can turn down the grunge dial whenever necessary.

The Animal Lover

Oeuf’s Reversible Animal Hoodie is irresistibly soft and oh-so-cute, keeping your mini-me warm and protected against the elements. This snuggly knit gives Peter Rabbit a run for his money, and works just as well as a rabbit’s fur coat when facing chilly winds. (And if rabbits aren’t your thing, the hoodie also comes in brown with monkey ears!)

The Little Lady

Small sophisticates can feel right at home wearing Zara Kids’ Frayed Jacket. In gorgeous red tweed, this tailored jacket is a playful (and much more affordable) take on Chanel’s classically refined style. The frayed edges and army-inspired shoulder detail liven it up, and make it the perfect companion to an edgy T-shirt for an ensemble with a lot of attitude.

Belle da Costa Greene: A Librarian's Legacy

The Morgan Library & Museum will present a major exhibition devoted to the life and career of its inaugural director, Belle da Costa Greene (1879–1950). Widely recognized as an authority on illuminated manuscripts and deeply respected as a cultural heritage executive, Greene was one of the most prominent librarians in American history. The exhibition will trace Greene’s storied life, from her roots in a predominantly Black community in Washington, D.C., to her distinguished career at the helm of one of the world’s great research libraries. Through extraordinary objects―from medieval manuscripts and rare printed books to archival records and portraits―the exhibition will demonstrate the confidence and savvy Greene brought to her roles as librarian, scholar, curator, and cultural executive, and honor her enduring legacy.
