In response to noticing “a lack of cool, casual, and functional clothing options” in the boys clothing market, actress (and former NYF cover-mom) Melissa Joan Hart and her husband Mark Wilkerson have created a clothing line called King of Harts in collaboration with talented children’s clothing designer, Souad Acha.
Influenced by Hart and Wilkerson’s three “mud puddle jumping, beach loving, frog catching” all-American boys, King of Harts is a boys clothing line featuring jeans, shorts, T-Shirts, and military-inspired outerwear. Set to release in spring 2015, this refreshing line is not only unique by its modern, yet vintage inspired design, but by its purposeful production.
“As we’ve learned, it’s not easy to manufacture domestically anymore because the over-seas prices are much more economical,” Hart wrote on the King of Hart’s blog. “However since we are a jean and T-shirt company above all, we are happy to report that it is remarkably simpler to find denim and cotton in the states.”
For Hart, producing this line is more than just meeting a need in the market; it’s about creating something of real value.
“This isn’t another ‘celebrity line’ that’s designed by a big company and made in China with some recognizable name slapped on it,” she blogged. “This is a grass-roots, family owned and operated entity.”
Producing the line in the United States, and having all of the fabrics and materials needed for production sourced in the United States was “the most important aspect” of the brand for Hart and Wilkerson.
“We see the glory in bringing jobs to our towns and communities,” Hart wrote. “We are enjoying the process of seeking out local farmers, suppliers, hardware, trim and garment professionals to not only stimulate our economy but to offer a brighter future and more possibilities to our next generations.”
