Kreider Farms, a Manheim, PA farm since 1935, is a wonderful outdoor attraction and one of Pennsylvania’s largest dairy farms. The farm offers tours to visitors interested in seeing over 2,500 acres of dairy farming, with chickens and cows, and even a milk bottling and ice cream plant.
That sounds fun in itself, but now the farm is about to unveil a brand new observation tower to the public on May 3. The 100-foot-tall tower sits atop a grain silo which was recently moved the length of three football fields – the record distance for moving a silo of its size.
Viewers will be able to see 360-degree views of Lancaster County’s breathtaking countryside once they climb the impressive 170-step exterior spiral staircase. The tower will light up in various colors using LED lighting and an American flag sits at the top of the platform for extra pizzazz.
For those in the Manheim, PA area, this is a wonderful place to spend time with the children, teaching them about the land and sustainable farming. The view from the tower can’t be beat and the entire family will surely remember this trip for years to come.
Visitors ages 12 and older will be admitted for $8 per person and those ages 2-11 cost $4. If you’d like to take a farm car or bus tour, the observation tower viewing is included in the tour price. For more information about a tour or the tower, or to make a reservation, call 717-665-5039 or email farmtour@kreiderfarms.com.
