Editor’s Note: New York City has lots of distinguished alumni. My former high school, Lincoln High in Coney Island, for example, can claim three Nobel Prize winners. Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (aka Lady Gaga) went to Sacred Heart in Manhattan, and she returned there a few weeks ago to shoot much of “A Very Gaga Thanksgiving,” which will air at 9:30 p.m, on ABC. —
If you think of Gaga at her most outrageous, it’s hard to also think of her as mainstream holiday fare. But I suspect she’s going to pull it off easily and entertainingly, and I’m looking forward to sharing the special (which she directed) with my 11-year daughter. The news accounts make it sound very sweet, including parts where she shares festive crafts and personal holiday-food traditions with third-graders at the school, who must be completely ga-ga about the whole experience. She’s also going to perform her latest single, “Marry the Night.”
There will always be a place in my heart for Charlie Brown, who has two specials tonight, both on before Gaga. Horton Hears A Who, however, will be on at the same time as her. But I’m not sure my daughter will permit any channel surfing. Nor will she hear it when I point out how Gaga is a model of creativity, open-mindedness, and perseverance.
What will you be watching?
Happy Thanksgiving,
Eric Messinger
