Beloved children’s musician Laurie Berkner will celebrate the release of her 11th album, Superhero, with a free mini-concert and CD signing at Barnes & Noble Tribeca on Friday, September 23 at 4pm, according to a press release.
With 21 Laurie Berkner originals and two “bonus” tracks, Superhero is Laurie Berkner’s first full album since 2008.
“To me, Superhero is about self-empowerment—being our best selves and discovering the superhero in all of us,” says Laurie.
All of the songs on the album speak to kids without talking down to them through imaginative lyrics that both enchant and empower. The new music ranges from quiet, a capella finger plays to get-up-and-dance full band anthems.
A former preschool music teacher by day and indie rocker by night, Laurie started selling her music nearly 20 years ago out of her living room on her own label, Two Tomatoes Records. She is now the uncrowned queen of children’s music and the power behind the progressive “kindie rock” movement.
The free event will take place at Barnes & Noble Tribeca, 97 Warren St., from 4pm – 5:30pm. Admission is free. For more info, visit the Barnes & Noble site or call 212-587-5389.
