Legoland Kiditor-in-Chief Waverly Winchester searched the New York area for months in order to build a Kid Reporting Team. The five young journalists chosen have been charged with providing exclusive information about the Legoland New York Resort to their peers before the park opens in 2020. The junior reporters will attend press events like any professional journalist, receive exclusive sneak peeks to the anticipated Goshen theme park long before anyone else, and gain invaluable journalism experience.
Winchester looked specifically for kids ages 6-12 who are inquisitive, bright, and live within 100 miles of the park.
“As a seasoned kid news reporter, I’m looking forward to helping my fellow junior journalists spread the news of Legoland New York,” Winchester said. “I’ve been telling my classmates about the park since I first heard it was opening, and now I get to share my excitement with kids from all over the country!”
Only a handful of finalists were chosen from 450 Kid Reporter applicants. Each submitted a video explaining why they want to report on Legoland. The five children selected to share their love of Legos and reporting with their peers across the country are:
- Matt, 6, of Mahwah, NJ, is an outdoorsmen and loves sports such as soccer and golf.
- Amelia, 7, of Middletown, aka Mimi, is passionate about science, dance, and drama class. She’s equally passionate about playing with her cousins.
- Julio, 9, of Chester, NJ, recently earned a black belt in taekwondo. He is a Cub Scout and loves fishing and camping.
- Daniel, 10, of Brooklyn, says his favorite Lego set is the Ninjago City set—but he also loves playing his trumpet!
- Abigail, 11, of Mamaroneck, loves singing, acting, and musical theater, and is a Fortnite fanatic.
All of these kids will publish stories on the Legoland New York microsite until spring 2020. They will each receive four complimentary annual passes to the park to use with their family, official Legoland New York swag, and a commemorative, one-of-a-kind, Lego-built microphone.
The park Matt, Mimi, Julio, Daniel, and Abigail will be writing about is the largest Legoland park Merlin Entertainments has ever built. The complex will feature more than 50 interactive rides, shows, and attractions in Goshen. The park will be open seasonally from spring through fall, and the resort will include a 250-room Legoland Hotel that will be open year-round.
