Coney Island’s beloved Luna Park will open with a second annual Charity Day to benefit Children of Promise, NYC, a local Brooklyn charity, on April 6. Guests who donate a minimum of $10 to CPNYC will have unlimited access to all of the park’s rides, such as the famous Coney Island Cyclone, the Sling Shot, and the Thunderbolt. The park will open at 11am, when Luna Park and Children of Promise, NYC will give opening addresses in front of the Coney Clipper. Then, the children from Children of Promise, NYC will kick off their day in the park with a turn on the Electro Spin, the park’s disco-themed spinning boardwalk ride.
Luna is an admission-free, open-gate amusement park where guests pay only for the rides and attractions they want to participate in. Normally, an all-day Luna pass starts at $40, while paying in advanced for a fixed date pass would set you back a minimum of $29. The park is chock full of games, shops, dining, special events, and rides that range from extreme to mild thrill levels, so the whole family can find something they enjoy. Luna is the largest amusement park in the city and considered its most famous playground, with a history that goes back more than 130 years. The park employs more than 800 people and gives back to the community through events and more.
Children of Promise, NYC is a community-based nonprofit based in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Its mission is to embrace children of incarcerated parents in the community, and empower them to break the cycle of intergenerational involvement in the criminal justice system. The kids who wear a Children of Promise, NYC t-shirt will be granted free admission to Luna Park opening day. All donations received will benefit CPNYC’s participants, families, and 2019 programming.
