1. Stock up on the essentials: Kids will always need basics, but with a novelty twist to make them feel new–printed leggings, graphic tees, and bright cotton dresses are all everyday items that feel a bit more special for back to school. Now’s your chance to stock up on comfy, casual basics with a modern feel. Neon is still really in–keep it coming–and tribal, floral, and striped prints help basic pieces feel fresh. 2. Sneakers are a must: Most kids need more than one pair. Go for the basics for day to day, like Cienta or Superga, and a cool pair of high-tops, like Puma or Converse, for more action-oriented days in the gym. At left: Superga Fabric Sneaker: GILT: $30, Original Retail: $65
