Pediatric Physical Therapy Center Opens in Somers

After providing home care for many years, Mara Gordon opened up her own physical therapy practice last February where she offers Cuevas Medek Exercises. Metamorphosis Pediatric Physical Therapy uses CME, which focuses on stimulating the postural reflexes as opposed to teaching motor development skills.

Postural reflexes are those natural reflexes that generally keep an individual upright. CME benefits children with motor disorders related to brain damage or abnormalities. This can include children with issues with muscle tone or spasticity, children that have brain malformations, and children that have genetic anomalies such as Down syndrome. CME can even be helpful to children who are simply clumsy.

Gordon also offers standard physical therapy, but it is her training in CME that makes her practice unique. Her mission is to empower both the family and the children to realize the child’s full potential, which is often underestimated, through this little known yet superior technique.

Gordon asserts that CME is for the individual whose child needs to use braces, a walker, or a wheelchair; for the individual whose child is progressing very slowly or appears to have plateaued in physical therapy; for the individual who believes they have “hit a wall”. For these people, Gordon promises that CME can “open a whole new world of capability.”
