‘Midsummer Night’s’ treat

A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays, and with good reason: the costumes are great, the lines are funny, and the story is easy to follow.

It’s no surprise then, that it’s routinely adaptated for children. Nnow through Aug. 29, the Arena Players Childrens Theater presents the comedy outdoors in the Vanderbilt Museum’s cobblestone courtyard, overlooking Long Island Sound and Northport Harbor.

Follow as the four young Athenian lovers and a group of amateur actors enter a moonlit forest, where mischievous fairies await, and humorous chaos ensues.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the Vanderbilt Museum [180 Little Neck Rd. between Gina Drive and Cobblestone Court in Centerport, (631) 854-5579], now through Aug. 29. Fridays at 8 pm and Sundays at 7 pm. Tickets $15 for adults, $10 for students and children 12 and under. For info, visit www.vanderbiltmuseum.org.

During our community-based program, young people will explore and reflect on their own story to create a larger, more meaningful experience, while gaining self-empowerment and gathering with like-minded peers. Through the guidance of our awarded teaching artists, young people will create narratives that will be turned into podcasts, dances, songs or poetry. </div> <div> </div> <div>Young people have the opportunity to learn new art forms, work with professional artists, while building a meaningful community.</div>
