More Than Just a Mommy-and-Me Class, Local Business Celebrates First Year

Music Together with Alexia opened its first location for Music Together® classes in Cold Spring in April of last year, and will be starting its second year with two locations, now including Peekskill. The next ten-week session of classes starts on April 13 at Go No Sen Karate.

Peekskill families might know Alexia Tate, director, as the ukulele-playing entertainer behind Story Garden with Miss Alexia, a regular fixture at The Field Library’s Children’s Room.

“I am so proud to finally offer Music Together classes in Peekskill, my own adopted hometown,” says Tate. “After teaching in Queens for several years, I wanted to keep providing quality family music classes to the community. I started out with classes in Cold Spring last year, but was able to start offering classes in Peekskill starting this January. Music Together’s success around the world has been phenomenal, and we always want to expand to offer families our wonderful program in other communities.”

“All children can learn to sing in tune, keep a beat, and participate with confidence in the music of our culture, provided that their early environment supports such learning,” says Tate. “Music Together brings families together by not only providing a rich musical environment in the classroom, but also encouraging them to bring our activities home, where they can make music a part of their daily life and routine. Families get so much out of these classes.”

Families with children ages newborn to five are invited to come for a no-obligation trial class at any time during the semester. The Spring session runs through mid-June and new families are always welcome to come for a visit. Schedule a trial by emailing mtwithalexia@gmail.com, calling, or visiting the website.

The location of Go No Sen Karate is ideal because it not only is an open, uncluttered and comfortably padded space, but it is conveniently located right off Rt. 9 at Welcher Ave., with a spacious parking lot. The popular karate dojo provides a clean and welcoming environment for the families of Peekskill and the surrounding areas.

Celebrating its 30th Anniversary, Music Together is an internationally recognized early childhood music and movement program for children birth through age seven. The Music Together curriculum was co-authored in 1987 by Kenneth K. Guilmartin (Founder/Director) and Rowan University Professor of Music Education Dr. Lili M. Levinowitz (Director of Research) and offers programs for families, schools, at-risk populations, and children with special needs in over 2000 communities in 40 countries. The company is passionately committed to bringing children and their caregivers closer through shared music-making and helping people discover the joy—and educational value—of early music experiences.
