On Aug. 9, My Gym opened on the corner of Smith Street and Baltic Street in Cobble Hill. The 56 hundred square-foot facility offers 28 hundred square-feet of play space and a 28 hundred square-foot basement for birthday parties and other special events. Classes are separated by age group and span from ages 6 weeks old to 10 years old.
Parent participation classes are available if parents would like to be involved in encouraging structured fitness for their kids.
“For the younger [classes], they’re rooted in entry-level gymnastics, and the older ones become more of a fitness level,” says Evan Wacht, who has been working for My Gym for almost four years and owns both the Park Slope and Cobble Hill locations. ”[For] the five to ten year olds, we actually have gymnastic classes where they’re all skill based, and then we also have a five to ten year old class where it’s called inter-training, where it’s like a ninja warrior class for kids.”
The gym always has two instructors on the gym floor, according to Wacht, plus the industrial support system of ladders, ropes, spinning discs, trapezes, and swings.
“We are very structure-based, so we do about ten different activities in a short period of time,” Wacht said,”and then when they’re ready to move up, the activities become a little more challenging.”
