New Rochelle Is Celebrating Mariano Rivera’s Hall of Fame Induction with a Parade

New York Yankees pitcher Mariano Rivera was unanimously inducted into the baseball hall of fame, and New Rochelle is celebrating its adopted Yankee with a key to the city ceremony and pinstripe parade on Saturday, July 27. The parade will march for a mile and a half, and the best reported viewing spots are North Aveue and Pelham Road and North Avenue at Main Street. New Rochelle residents, baseball fans, and anyone who loves Rivera are invited to partake in the spectacle.

The festivities will include a party with DJMG Mark Guiliano, food, and special surprise giveaways, courtesy of the Yankees, at the Hudson Park Bandshell. The parade will feature classic cars, a city sightseeing double decker bus, youth groups, local sports teams, and marching bands all celebrating Rivera. Kids will be participating through the Little League, Boys & Girls Club, Girl Scouts, and high school baseball and softball teams. Youth organizations from throughout greater Westchester County will also be participating. The parade will conclude with a Key to the City Ceremony.

Rivera played 19 seasons for the Yankees from 1995-2013. He lived with his family in Panama until 2000, when they relocated to Westchester. Rivera’s son, Mariano III, pitched for the Iona College baseball team, and in 2014 The Mariano Rivera Foundation opened and renovated a New Rochelle church, Refugio de Esperanza. Rivera and his wife, Clara, created a scholarship in their names that is awarded to students at the College of New Rochelle. Rivera also organizes a charity golf tournament that benefits White Plains Hospital.
