Celebrate the fall season with a visit to Boscobel, where you and your family will be transported back to the 19th century during Horse & Carriage Day on Sunday, October 1, 2006, featuring a parade of authentic horse-drawn carriages against the spectacular panoramic backdrop of the Hudson Highlands. Following the parade, there will be driving competitions and wagon rides through the grounds.

Also this month is their harvest celebration, Apple Shindig, on Saturday, October 14, 2006. The evening begins with a blessing of the apple orchard and the traditional pouring of apple cider at the roots of one of Boscobel’s apple trees. This will be followed by a potluck supper and musical performances, highlighted by a contest to find the tastiest apple dishes, with prizes for the winners.
Boscobel, perched on the east bank of the Hudson River, includes a restored early 19th-century mansion full of furnishings and decorative arts from the Federal period of American history. Forty-five-minute guided tours of the mansion are offered from April through December. Those who prefer the outdoors can follow a self-guided tour of the rose garden, orangery, herb garden, springhouse, gatehouse, and Woodland Trail. Or you can pack a picnic, bring a blanket, and simply sit and take in the glorious scenery and views of the United States Military Academy at West Point across the river.
