Olivia Wilde has a message for straphangers who refuse to give up their seats for pregnant women.
The actress, who is currently expecting her second child with fiancé Jason Sudeikis, took to Twitter to air her grievances. She wrote, “NBD, able-bodied [subway emoji] riders who won’t give your seat to a GIANT preggo. I’ll just stand riiiiight next to your head and pray I go into labor.“
Wilde and Sudeikis live in Brooklyn with their 2-year-old son Otis. The couple announced back in April that they were expecting a second child.
The Tweet has gotten over 4,000 likes and over 650 retweets. Many are commiserating with the actress by saying it is simply a matter of good manners.
Twitter user @JociM wrote, “Consideration should be universal. If I encountered a pregnant man on the subway, I’d give up my seat.”
Others are calling out the actress for being entitled. One user wrote, “Pregnancy is not an illness or disability. You’re rich, call Uber or catch a cab! Entitled much?”
Wilde responded to the negative feedback by Tweeting, “Whoa whoa whoa, it’s not about scolding, or celebrity, or who can afford an uber. It’s simply about us all looking out for each other.”
Whatever your view, the actress’s point was made. Pregnant, city-dwelling moms don’t have it easy and a seat on the subway, while they may not be entitled to it, is definitely appreciated.
