This weekend holds some exciting beginnings, like the Whitney Museum of American Art’s 2014 Biennial Family Programs and
“Peace, Love, and Cupcakes The Musical!” Additionally, a few special performances include a group of adventurers on a silly bear hunt and some exquisite puppetry based on Caldecott Honor books. After all the family performances and activities, check out some great Purim celebrations this Saturday!

Puppet fans will love the innovative storytelling techniques of Leo Lionni’s Swimmy, Frederick & Inch by Inch. A translation of the beloved Caldecott Honor books into theatrical performances, this show tells the tale of Swimmy, a small fish who outsmarts tricky situations; Frederick, a poetic mouse; and an inch worm who has the ability to measure everything. $25

Purim Celebrations
Celebrate Purim with these two family carnivals! There’s no shortage of holiday entertainment with 92Y’s festival including carnival games, a petting zoo, and a magic show. Guests are even encouraged to show up in costume! The JCC in Manhattan is also hosting their own Purim carnival, filled with games, animals, face painting, an obstacle course, and more! The 92Y carnival is from $12, the JCC carnival is free

Polaris Productions Theater Camp

<p>Kids will learn, rehearse, and perform the wonderful Maurice Sendak and Carole King musical, Really Rosie. For 10 weekdays, campers will take part in physical and vocal warm-ups and learn choreography, staging, and vocal parts. They’ll develop skills in acting, singing, character development, and more. This camp will ignite your child’s imagination and passion for performing, build their self-esteem, and help them form lasting friendships. They’ll have fun! At camp’s end, the kids will perform Really Rosie for family members and friends. Kids of all levels of experience, ages 8 through 13, are welcome to join.</p>
