Dylan’s Candy Bar, the national sweets emporium owned by NYC mom Dylan Lauren, is already a favorite of city kids with its whimsical sweet treats and customizable candies. Now, Dylan’s is bringing their innovative take on candy to the next level with the launch of the world’s first 3D Candy Printer. In partnership with Katjes Magic Candy Factory, kids and parents can now create custom confections using 3D candy printers in Dylan’s Flagship 3rd Avenue and Union Square locations (and at Dylan’s Candy Bars across the country).
The printers are a sweet introduction to the fascinating world of 3D printing–the kids will love designing their own candies and seeing the printer spit out their custom treats.
Using a connected tablet, customers can choose from among more than 100 different designs to print, or render a photo of themselves, a family member, or pet in gummy candy. If they’re feeling especially creative, they can write or draw their own design. Candy creators can also choose from among eight different colors and flavors, as well as special finishes like glitter, sour, or fizzy dust.
The Magic Candy Factory printer uses a process called Fused Deposition Modeling to make candy visions into 3D reality. Ingredients are heated and molded into different shape combinations, which are then turned into coded instructions from the tablet, which tells the printer how to apply each of the layers. The entire process—from inputting your design to printed gummy—takes about 10 minutes.
The custom candies are $20 per print, and the gummies are made from all-natural fruit and veggie extracts. Online ordering will be available soon through Dylan’s Candy Bar.
