Purchase College is expanding its adult continuing education program this fall with the addition of a tattoo illustration class and a new interior design class as part of its interior design certificate program.

Kids aren’t the only ones heading back to school this September. At Purchase College, back-to-school options are open to parents as well. This year, new additions to the college’s Personal Enrichment program, as part of the School of Liberal Studies & Continuing Education, allow adults to take evening and weekend classes to explore their passions and learn new skills.

The college’s newest addition to its Personal Enrichment program is Tattoo Illustration. Taught by Miguel Torres, a Purchase College alumni and tattoo artist, illustrator, and deisgner who has worked with Ecko Unltd., Zoo York, and Wu-Tang Clan, this class focuses on “the need for quality artists in this profession,” says Kelly Jackson, program director. Students will learn to work with clients and pursue an apprenticeship, create a portfolio, and improve their drawing skills. The course runs Sept. 19-Dec. 12, and classes are held from 10am-1pm on Saturdays.

In addition, Purchase is expanding on its popular Interior Design Professional Certificate program this academic year by adding a Materials and Finishes course. Students will learn about the properties and aesthetic importance of design finishes such as paints, woods, and wallpapers, “which often really make for a quality interior design,” Jackson says. This class runs Sept. 26-Oct. 26 on Monday evenings from 6-9pm.

The Interior Design program is one of the college’s most popular, consisting of 11 required classes and three electives, but students are welcome to take any number of Interior Design classes they want, even if they are not enrolled in the entire program. In fact, says Jackson, “we really welcome those students… who take a class just because they’re interested.”

Purchase College also offers classes for adults in Pilates and Pilates instructor certification, photography, social media marketing, and more. Registration is now open, and there no prerequisites for two new classes.
