Six Flags Great Adventure Unleashes Biggest Fright Fest

It’s that spooky time of year again! Celebrate the Halloween season at Six Flags Great Adventure's Fright Fest in Jackson, NJ. Promoted as “the Northeast's largest Halloween party,” Fright Fest runs weekends and select days through Oct. 31 and features more than 25 Halloween-themed shows and attractions, according to a press release by Six Flags Great Adventure.

This year the amusement park unveiled two newly-themed haunted mazes, three new shows, and a new scare zone for its 2017 Fright Fest.

The Lady of the Lake Cemetery is the newest scare zone based on Great Adventure’s folklore about a drowned bride cursed by the Jersey Devil.

The new mazes are Aftermath or Wicked Woods. In Aftermath, guests try to survive a post-apocalyptic world. And in Wicked Woods, participants attempt to the darkness that lurks in the woods.

The new stage shows are Unleashed, Corvyx, and Ignite. Unleashed will feature acrobatics, dance, as well as feats of magic. Corvyx is an alternative electronic pop artist currently taking YouTube by storm. And Ignite is a display of fire spinning and illusion.

In addition to the new frights, classic family favorites will return by popular demand: Trick-or-Treat Trail, The Skeletones, Professor Slithers’ Creepy Critters, and Spooky Kooky Magic Show. On the Trick-or-Treat Trail, children ages 12 and under can wear costumes and meet their favorite characters who will be handing out sweet treats.

Though these attractions will provide fun for the entire family, keep an eye on the time and know what your child can handle, as Fright Fest's festivities get much scarier after 6pm and are not recommended for children younger than 12 or those who scare easily.

After 6pm Six Flags Great Adventure takes a dark turn with Fright By Night, which rolls out attractions such as The Awakening, Dead Man’s Party, and Cell Block 6. The Awakening is a parade of costumed ghosts and zombies created by Dr. Fright. And in the Cell Block 6 attraction, guests race to escape a haunted prison where the inmates have risen up against the cruel guards.

Altogether, for the price of a one-day admission to Six Flags Great Adventure (starting at $56.99), you'll have access to Fright Fest's 11 shows, scare zones, family-friendly attractions, Halloween-themed shopping and dining experiences, and Six Flags' more than 50 rides. The seven haunted mazes require an additional fee. Six Flags Great Adventure is located at 1 Six Flags Blvd. in Jackson, NJ. For more information, visit sixflags.com/greatadventure.
