Ah, the dilemmas of childhood…Where do I sit at lunchtime? Does that boy think I’m cute? Should I get shoes with wheels or lights?
Luckily, unlike school cliques and tween romances, your little one can stop fretting about that last one. Heelys reps say they’re “excited” about a few new styles the company is debuting this season that include both wheels in the heels AND motion activated LED-lights. (Finally!)
The shoe comes in two designs — Bolt (the lightning-patterned boys’ model; see photo) and Blossom (the girls’ design that sports a flower pattern) — and the company says it’s perfect for younger kids and/or less experienced skaters because it has two removable wheels instead of just one (so your less-than-coordinated adolescent can fake better balance).
“Not only is it easier to maintain balance, but [the design] doesn’t require as much leg strength to lift up your toes to skate,” said Rick Groesch, Heelys’ chief commercial officer, in a press release. Impressive, right? But wait, it gets better: “You can even take out both wheels and turn them into a normal pair of shoes,” This with increasingly.Groesch added.
Both designs feature a zigzag of Velcro instead of laces (hold on — wheels, lights, AND Velcro? Mind = blown).
