In August, Sweet Charlie's Mamaroneck moved to a new location in the burgeoning Harvest Market food court located off of I-95. There, it continues to offer its speciality Thai rolled ice cream and frozen yogurt desserts, which can be the perfect complements to the barbecue, sandwiches, and coffee vendors also housed in the complex.
The Sweet Charlie's franchise offers ice cream that is, in its own words, “the way it should be.” This means that ice cream and frozen yogurt orders are hand rolled and prepared on a cold surface kept under 20 degrees fahrenheit. At this temperature, small ice crystals form on the ice cream, which allows for much-desired freshness. Sweet Charlie's also offers several catering packages that bring rolled ice cream to weddings, birthday parties, and company events in the area. With approximately 20 locations across the country and a handful on the way, this dessert franchise is set to take over as the nation's go-to hand rolled ice cream shop.
The Sweet Charlie’s Mamaroneck location originally opened in March of last year at 362 Mamaroneck Ave., where it remained despite repeated flooding and other building-related issues. It finally closed in December. After a conversation with Harvest Market founder Mike Shafer, Sweet Charlie’s Mamaroneck owner Brett Wien decided to make the move. He celebrated the new location with a soft opening in July, before the August grand opening.
Despite the new location, Wien retains the same vision for his Sweet Charlie’s franchise. “Our vision is the same as it was when we had to suddenly close,” he says, “and that is to be the premiere dessert shop in Westchester County.”
In the future, Wien wishes to open a second location either in Westchester or Southern Connecticut and expand its catering capabilities to beyond the Westchester, Rockland and north Bergen counties, bringing delicious ice cream to the tri-state area.
