Every holiday season, it seems like there’s a new way to prepare turkey, and it’s all readily available in a quick Google search or cookbook browse. So this year, in light of Hanukkah’s overlap with Thanksgiving, we’ve compiled a menu of recipes from local bloggers to celebrate the double holiday. We have everything from the appetizer and the bread to the sides and the meal’s finale–dessert! We’ll leave the main, be it a Thanksgiving bird or Jewish brisket, up to you. Enjoy!
Kale & Eggplant Chips with Balsamic Ketchup Salsa
Our senior editor discovered a revamped ketchup last year. It makes a great salsa for healthy, homemade chips, perfect as a side or pre-dinner snack.
Sweet Potato Latkes
Latkes are perhaps the most beloved of Jewish eats, enjoyed year round but especially appreciated during Hanukkah. Our listings editor and avid home cook Gavriella found a glorious way to make the Jewish staple Thanksgiving-friendly. If you have trouble returning to white potato latkes after trying these, don’t say we didn’t warn you.
Homemade Challah
Aholiday feast is not complete without a loaf of bread. For obvious reasons, we think challah ought to be the bread on everyone’s table this year. Blogger Cara Nicoletti’s recipe is easy enough even for a novice.
Sweet Potato Wedges with Dill Creme Fraiche
Skip the over-the-top sugar bomb casserole and opt for a dish that speaks to both celebrations. Sweet potatoes topped with cool creme fraiche will probably become your Thanksgivukkah table staple.
Baked Pasta with Roasted Pumpkin and Bacon
Give picky eaters something to get excited about with One hungry mama’s elevated version of mac n’ cheese–everybody’s favorite way to eat pasta! This recipe calls for roasted pumpkin (’tis the season) and bacon. Best of all, it’s not as heavy as it looks, so you’ll have room for other fantastic sides
Thanksgiving Potatoes
No Thanksgiving is complete without potatoes. Naptime Chef extraordinaire Kelsey Banfield’s recipe is truly something else–and a great alternative the to mashed dish. Psst–fresh rosemary is key!
Roasted Cauliflower and Mushroom Quinoa Salad
To round out your Thanksgivkkuh meal, Closet Cooking’s Kevin Lynch has a real winner: a healthy roasted cauliflower and mushroom quinoa salad. You’ll need to save some calories for dessert, after all!
Browned Butter Sweet Potato Casserole
Remember what we said above about ditching the casserole? If you can’t forgo the marshmallowy fave, don’t fret. Cooking Classy adds her special touch to this recipe, all jazzed up with brown sugar and pecans.
Cheese Crusted Tomatoes
You don’t have to get complicated to get great taste. Carla Sullivan of MiniMunchers goes back to the yummy basics with crunchy, munchy texture and melty, satisfying cheese.
Apple Cream Pie
We used to believe that there were few things better than a slice of homemade apple pie. Until now. Hungry Rabbit’s incredible twist on the classic will make everyone happy–that is, before they realize that getting a second slice is impossible. It’s not the simplest recipe, but you won’t regret spending the time to create this sure-to-be new favorite.
Pumpkin Sour Cream Tart
Dial up the pumpkin pie with Bella Baker’s sour cream-based creation, which adds a delicious tang and extra oomph of awesome flavor. Plus, its graham cracker crust is not only a child and grown-up favorite–it’s also easier to make than your rolled pie crust.
