Dream: I wake up from my nap and say: “Elle go to Fiona’s house.” Mommy says we cannot go because it is too cold and snowy but I can stay inside and play with the puppy. Puppy may want to stay in but the cold and snow can’t keep me from my best friends!
Reality: I wake up from my nap and say: “Elle go to Fiona’s house.” Mommy says: “Yes!” And that we will go play after I get a diaper change and snack. Score! I always have the best time with my best friend, Fiona. I even willingly hop into my stroller so we can get there quickly. When we arrive I always like to get out of my stroller so when the elevator opens on her floor I can run down the hallway and knock at the door. Usually Fiona greets me with a smile but sometimes her mommy does. The latter is a sign that we need to go wake Fiona from her nap together. Don’t worry—she always wakes up happy when her BFF is her alarm clock.
We ask to go to the playground and off we go! Fiona runs with her stroller and doll and I run after. I say: “Fiona take Elle’s hand!” And she does and we run holding hands. Then Fiona tells me to run so I do and we continue on and on with laughs and giggles and only an occasional bumper friend’s moment (that’s where we accidentally collide). We are so fast that I can barely see Fiona as I chase after her. We have the best time. And we never get tired. We just keep going and going. Yet her mommy is so smart that she suggests we stop for water. So we stop for a water break.
I ask for “Fiona’s cup please” and quietly try to take Fiona’s cup since her water looks better than mine but she clearly tells me: “This mine. This yours.” So I keep my cup (score: Fiona 1, Elle 0). Then I have a snack of cheddar bunnies and Fiona wants some (I can just sense these things) so we feed each other. I say: “Here you go, Fiona.” And she says: “Thank you.” We are such little ladies. Miss Manners would be proud even though we technically should not be sharing snacks.
Mommy asks us if we want to swing or slide after we refuel. Yes! “Let’s go together,” we say and run off. We dance with excitement bouncing and bopping up the stairs and then whee-ing all the way down the slide. Then I tell Fiona: “hold my hand” and we do it all over shouting “again!” happily in unison. Believe it or not, we eventually tire of the slide and next take turns spinning and falling. We even start a rousing game of Ring Around the Rosie. We pull each other around and fall down together. Good thing I still wear diapers to cushion my fall.
I fall and pretend to cry but accidentally upset Fiona. She sees me crying and asks: “Are you okay?” I get up and laugh and say: “Of course!” She says: “You’re so funny!” We giggle and run again frolicking having infinite amounts of toddler fun in the sun.
“I love you so much,” Fiona says. And I give her a giant hug in return. I don’t need to say anything more. We laughed, we cried, it was a perfect play date!
